Page after Page is a writing book for people who don’t do the exercises in writing books. It’s written for those of us who feel the need to skip around when we read, making our own order for the chapters. Most “motivational” books make me feel I’ve purchased a palm-sized cheerleader, and she’s yelling at me in a tiny loud voice. I am not a big fan of cheering outside a stadium context. I don’t need a cheerleader. (I have a dog.) I need quiet insight into the long haul. I need mysteries explained. Why, if I love writing so much, do I make it so difficult to get to the desk, and get started? Why does it take so long to write something great when sometimes, my best work comes out in five minutes, no revision? Page after Page is part love-letter to the writing life and part invitation: if I can do this, you can do this, come on in.
