High Points, Early September 2010

It was a superbly fabulous and intensely painful week. High high points and low low points. A lot of grief to sit with. Much of the time, that ugly grief just sat on me and I felt squashed by it. Flattened and squashed and bent out of shape.
Fabulous food and fun, and miscommunication and hurt feelings and the grief. Back like bad weather. A week being a human.
I want to name the high points. I want to stand on the sidewalk and call them out. I want to write them in the sky.
1. David Junior and I love the same Taylor Swift song.
2. David Junior Scyped me from Okinawa and he showed me photos of the scrolls!
3. Jacob defended his honor and our country’s.
4. I love my classes and my new students.
5. In lieu of Sufjan, Charlie and Colin will play music (I think) at my book party.
6. I have a great new revision of my textbook going–I am so excited about this book!!
7. I bought a catnip plant. I don’t have cats. I am allergic to cats. Cats are as mysterious to me as octopi or Martians. But I love my friends who love their cats and I want to send a round of catnip nips to all the beloved (by someone) cats. Kay and her husband grow the best stuff. “The first one’s free,” he said at the farmer’s market this morning….lols.
8. My dad is happy and safe and good and that was really, really hard to accomplish but we did it.
9. The New York Documentary. I cut my plans short in the evening so I can get back home and watch it.
10. Friday Night Lights.
