Love Obsession Grace and the Art of Spring Cleaning

At the end of the semester, there’s a wrinkle and a wastebasket. Lots of throwing away.
This weekend, I cleaned up my school office. And this weekend, to continue the Good Summer Articulation and Despair Prevention Process (see previous post), I cleaned up piles in my writing studio. Mostly this consisted of hole punching great stacks of notes and papers and inserting them willynilly into fat overpriced orange and red and green notebook binders. Somehow, being able to stand the piles of papers upright, and set them up against each other makes me feel strategic and organized, like Woodrow Wilson on OfficeMax.
The really good part of the hole punching process though was finding brilliant slips of paper where I’ve written down things I want to know always. My studio is so much smarter than I am! It is filled with wisdom! Here’s some:
“Reteach yourself your loveliness.”
“Never Enter your studio with an idea”
“Tell a loving truth” (Mary Karr)
“Obsessions are based on guilt, fear and shame. Transform that energy into love.”
Ah.
