book from annie, flowers as birthday candles

birthday book presents
I’ve been pencil, despair, darkness, paper, no blog, no net.
Wednesday was my birthday. Instead of candles, I got flowers, flowers, flowers, flowers. I love each one. Forty-five flowers. Every room in my house has a bouquet.
I love fall flowers. I love their hope. I love their subtlety. I love what they have to say about growing older with grace. I love the palette. The strange strings of things. Berries, leaves–taken for granted the rest of the year, out of the backdrop now and starring with the lilies. Welcome flowers.
I got as presents a beautiful book made from other books. I got a vase of basil and parsley. A voile scarf of butterflies that fit right in. I got coral roses and calla lilies, a Rivera painting in a huge vase. I haul them from room to room and weep and I take a bath and just stare at these species. My house is filled with flowers.
I got books.
This birthday was flowers, books, flowers, books. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I love them all.
(The books were from myself to me.)
And the best card ever, overnighted– “You have an interesting past. You have a promising future.”
Open. “BUT YOU HAVE NO PRESENT!”

Heather, thank you for all your sharing. I began appreciation of you when I read Page After Page a few years ago, after my mom passed away. I would like to know your thoughts on the “morning pages” ritual from The Artist’s Way. The couple of times I started them, I didn’t stay committed. I want to write a novel. Thank you, and it sounds like your birthday was full of love. cindy covert
Happy Birthday Heather! I too am a Virgo … Sept 11, although I’ve seen 45 almost 20 years ago. I think September flowers are among the most beautiful … here in the Southeast: goldenweed, sky blue batchelor button, purple thistle, wonderful purple/black pokeberries. And books! The most exciting! I’m trying to read the titles in your photo to virtually share your upcoming reading adventures! (smile) Have a wonderful year of inspiration and fresh pages! Happy Birthday!
