Mary Bought All the Copies!
I’m back from Kalamazoo, where I got to spend lots of time with my dear good friends Mary and John. My article in O came out and it was so so so good of Mary to buy all the copies and make a giant fuss about this! I felt like it was my birthday all weekend long.
I slept so good which I never do and Mary said, “You’re loved here and when we feel loved, we sleep.” Oh, yes. O yes and Oh yes.
We saw Julie and Julia which, like the weekend, was about food, good work, and friendship, and good marriage.
And this morning, I mailed off my draft of my new book, The Nighttime Novelist. Now, it’s time to think about dinner–and Jake (who introduced to me the term “bromance” last night and said “you’ll use it.” ), the U.S. Navy, and the country we live in.
The little things–parsley in the garden, and the good lemons D will bring. A happy publication. And the big things. The world, the seas, the way it all unfolds.

Wow!!!!!!!!!
Dear Heather,
Just read your article in O – what a great piece of writing, thank you for the humor that does not braid down into a bitter snarkiness. I am a 47-y-o dater and my heart tells me to keep hoping as my mind watches in dismay, arms crossed in the corner with each first date. I have never tracked down a writer in O to say “thank you” – and I don’t have all of the words just yet of why this touched me so. My beauty sees your beauty. Namaste
Heather, just a word of praise for your article. Utterly fascinating, inciteful and thought provoking. I would be interested in reading the final outcome.
You look so happy which is just wonderful.
Captivating. Convincing. Completely irresistible! I read your article and had to go looking for more… Your writing is a breath of fresh air savored through a sip of Moroccan mint tea; startling, refreshing and savory.
