Spontaneous Art in the Park

across the street from my house is a beautiful natural park and lots of days there are sculptures there. i know kids build them. and other kids knock them down. this top photo is an installation that reminds me so much of andy goldsworthy, it makes me so happy. it’s like finding a baby a poem.
the second photo, below, is an aftermath. the night before, i saw this amazing cage of lace sticks, strung with vines and sprigged with leaves and bright things–it was kind of a castle/basket, propped up against the tree, lean-too fashion. exquisite. but in the morning, when i went out to take the photo, it was all crashed to bits. still beautiful. but just in a kind of destruction sublime way.
my summer project is going to be photographing these impromptu sculputres whenever they go up. the dog is a big fan of the project. given that he can barely walk now, and prefers standing and staring at the middle distance.

  1. I LOVE THIS. Both the Goldsworthy-ness and how much it reminds me of Boo and Jem and Scout’s tree, in To Kill A Mockingbird. Heather, I come to your blog for a lift, among other reasons, and now I’m airborne. Thank you.
