MOTOR RUNNING, READING THE OWNER’S MANUAL

It has always seemed to me to be the case that my greatest strength is reading into everything and my greatest shortcoming is reading into everything.
But really I do see car trouble as a perfect tarot card or prediction. Your own car trouble is valuable to you. It can really tell you what you need to pay attention to.
I had this little car issue yesterday and it stopped me in my tracks. Battery-related issues resolved…then it turned out my clock and radio had stopped working altogether—no time, no music. A long drive with no tunes, no time?
Weirdly, I remembered I have an owner’s manual. Even weirder, I got it out and shock of shocks I decided to read it, right there in the riven gas station, at pump four.
I am exhausted by my troubles. My battery is dead. My music has stopped. I’m out of time.
It turned out I need to go to the dealer.
Here’s my learning. When my own inner radio dies, and I am not able to tune in to the music, I need to read my owner’s manual and figure out what the problem is. Instead of coming up with a thousand theories and weeping because my fear is so great, I can call The Dealer.
Also, at this juncture, I was on the wrong highway. Another metaphor, for another day.
You aren’t that lost, the attendant said that day at the BP somewhere in the middle of Indiana, when I went in to pay, when I told her where I meant to be, and asked her where I really was. “You can recover easily actually. Stoplight,” she said. “Turn left.” She was not happy but she knew what was what.
My radio still doesn’t work. We do not know why. Stoplight, turn left you can still recover. That’s the new song in my head.
